HCMC – Danang City is considering relaxing social distancing measures in some parts and sectors, it was announced at a meeting held by the Standing Board of the Danang Party Committee on August 28 to discuss solutions to fight Covid-19.

Speaking at the meeting, Danang Vice Chairman Le Trung Chinh said that the city had proposed that the Government allow it to ease social distancing measures as soon as possible at a meeting with the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control on August 27.

Local hospitals in the city have discharged 168 Covid-19 patients, while 186 others are undergoing treatment, Phap Luat Online reported, citing Chinh.

The Covid-19 situation remains complicated, but it is necessary to adopt more effective solutions than just extending social distancing, Chinh said, adding that as such, the city will relax social distancing in some parts.

Ngo Thi Kim Yen, director of the Danang Department of Health, said that workers at four industrial parks have yet to be tested for Covid-19.

As a result, the department proposed that the city spend one more week testing some 100,000 samples to ensure the disease does not spread among the community before moving to a new period of Covid-19 prevention.

The city will have to form a culture of living with Covid-19 so the economy recovers, Yen added.

The Standing Board of the Danang Party Committee affirmed that the city would continue social distancing measures until the disease is contained successfully, Lao Dong Online reported.

The city will consider easing social distancing for some sectors so they can gradually recover their business and production activities. These steps will be taken carefully and monitored closely.

Addressing the meeting, Danang Chairman Huynh Duc Tho said that after the completion of the large-scale Covid-19 testing, the city will relax social distancing measures.

If the situation gets better, the city will adopt the prime minister’s Directive 19 after August 31, he said, adding that Directive 16 will still be applied to high-risk parts.
