HCMC – The northern region is forecast to experience medium to heavy rains this afternoon and tonight, August 19, due to the impact of a tropical storm while the active southwest monsoon will lead to heavy downpours in the Central Highlands and southern regions from today to August 22, according to the national weather center.

Rainfalls, triggered by Tropical Storm Higos, are forecast to range from 50 to 150 millimeters in the northeast region from August 20 to 22, while the mountainous northern region will see heavy rains during the three-day period, with rainfalls ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters, VietnamPlus news site reported.

Torrential rains, coupled with thunderstorms, will also hit the Central Highlands and southern regions in the afternoon and at night.

At 7.00 a.m. today, the eye of the storm, the fourth to hit the country this year, was spotted at 22.3 degrees North latitude and 112.9 degrees East longitude, south of China’s Guangdong, packing strong winds measured at level 10, with gusts at level 13.

The storm is forecast to move west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour and weaken into a tropical depression tomorrow.
