Tropical depression intensifies into storm Saudel

HCMC – A tropical depression in the sea of the Philippines has strengthened into a tropical storm, Saudel, and is expected to enter the East Sea and become the eighth storm to hit Vietnam this year, according to the national weather center.

By 7 a.m. on October 20, the storm was spotted some 330 kilometers east of Luzon Island of the Philippines.

In the next 24 hours, it is likely to move west-northwest at 20-25 kilometers per hour and head toward the East Sea. By 7 a.m. on October 21, the system may be located some 740 kilometers east-southeast of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, packing winds at 60-75 kilometers per hour, gusting at level 10.

In the next 24-48 hours, the storm is predicted to move westward at 15-20 kilometers and pick up strength. As of 7 a.m. on October 22, it will be centered some 350 kilometers east-southeast of the Hoang Sa archipelago, with strong winds blowing at 90-100 kilometers per hour and will possibly be located in the archipelago the following morning.
