HCMC – The Ministry of Health has reported one new Covid-19 patient, a 31-year-old Myanmarese sailor, who entered Vietnam through Hon Gai Port on June 23, taking the country’s tally to 413 today, July 24.

The sailor of the IPANEMA ship, which departed from Japan on June 16, was quarantined on the ship upon his arrival in Vietnam.

On July 6, the sailor was sent to the Van Long Hotel in the northern province of Quang Ninh for quarantine.

The man had his sample taken for Covid-19 testing on July 9, and the test result came back negative for the virus.

However, his positive test result came out on July 23, so he is being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi City.

Earlier on July 19, Vietnam also confirmed one Myanmarese sailor of the IPANEMA ship as the country’s 383rd case of Covid-19.

Speaking of a suspected case of Covid-19 in Danang City, Associate Professor Dr. Le Thi Quynh Mai, deputy head of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, told Tuoi Tre Online that there was not enough basis to confirm the resident of Danang as positive for Covid-19.

The institute is testing his sample for the fifth time, she said, adding the the test result will be announced tomorrow, July 25.

Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said that after being notified of the suspected case, the ministry defined it as a case posing a high risk of community transmission. He was speaking at a meeting this afternoon chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, the head of the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control.

As a result, the ministry told the relevant agencies to adopt all Covid-19 prevention and control measures, VnExpress news site reported.

Besides this, the ministry will conduct Covid-19 tests on a large scale in the city.
