HCMC – On June 1, during their second telephone call over the past two months, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and his Japanese counterpart Motegi Toshimitsu discussed collaboration between the two countries in dealing with the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and agreed to promote economic and trade cooperation in the future.

Minh lauded the determination of the Japanese Government and its people in fighting Covid-19 and thanked Japan for its support to Vietnam during the pandemic, especially for helping the Vietnamese students there.

Motegi congratulated Vietnam for effectively containing the Covid-19 infection in the country, and thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for donating facemasks and helping Japanese experts return to Vietnam for work.

The Japanese foreign minister said that besides financial support, Japan would continue to provide Vietnam with medical equipment based on the demand in the country.

He proposed that the two countries consider resuming travel between their peoples, especially in the case of experts and managers, to boost economic cooperation, trade and investments.

The two ministers agreed to promote cooperation at regional and international forums, and accelerate the establishment of the ASEAN center for emerging diseases and public health emergencies that was initiated by Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo at the Special ASEAN + 3 Summit on April 14.
